Continental Boost: 255,000 Euros For Podravina Tourism Projects

  • PublishedMarch 8, 2025

March the 8th, 2025 – 255,000 euros have been provided to boost Podravina tourism, with three projects in the works aimed at boosting this overlooked part of Croatia.

As ePodravina/Ivica Barac writes, Koprivnica-Križevci County Prefect Darko Koren was recently in Zagreb, where he signed contracts for the allocation of 255,000 euros in grants for three significant Podravina tourism projects.

“The tourist board has applied for the following Podravina tourism projects: “Top Events from Koprivnica-Križevci County”, for which 100,000 euros have been secured, “Improving the Quality of Accommodation in Koprivnica-Križevci County”, for which 100,000 euros have also been secured, and “Picturesque Podravina and Prigorje”, for which 55,000 euros have been secured. The funds have been allocated from the Fund for Underdeveloped Tourist Areas and the Continent and from the Fund for Associated Tourist Boards,” Koren revealed when revealing the Podravina tourism projects that will hopefully provide a spring in the step of continental Croatian tourism.

“For the third year in a row now, the Koprivnica-Križevci County Tourist Board is also applying for the Top Events of the Koprivnica-Križevci County project, which provides additional support to the most famous county events, the Renaissance Festival in Koprivnica and the Picokijada in Đurđevac. Thanks to that application, the two top events will receive a total of 100,000 euros in support this year. This is the amount they received last year,” the Koprivnica-Križevci County administration revealed.

“This tourist board was otherwise the first in the entire country to start a project to support private accommodation back in 2021. That project will be implemented throughout this year as well, and will help landlords to open up new accommodation capacities or increase the quality of their existing capacities.

With the original 30,000 euros from the tourist board’s budget and an additional 100,000 euros in support from the Ministry of Tourism and Sport and the Croatian National Tourist Board (HTZ), the project is moving strongly in the right direction. Thanks to all of this support, over the past few years, around 20 new accommodation facilities have been opened across this county,” it was stated.

Most of the continental part of Croatia, with the exception of the City of Zagreb, lives in the very long shadow of Dalmatia and Istria. The coast has always been the main lure for all visitors to this country, and with very good reason. It’s unlikely to ever alter, but this incredibly diverse country offers all kinds of delights to those who want to explore further afield, away from the glistening coastline and countless islands.

Podravina tourism requires a serious boost if it wants to catch up in any sense to its coastal competition, and these funds will definitely lend themselves to attracting more curious tourists to the chronically overlooked and forgotten parts of the country.
