Croatian Tourist Destinations Shine at ITB Berlin!
March the 7th, 2025 – Croatian tourist destinations from up and down the country have shone at the world’s largest tourism fair, ITB Berlin.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, various Croatian tourist destinations rightfully achieved notable success at the world’s largest tourism fair, ITB Berlin. They collectively took home several prestigious awards for sustainable tourism management, which lends itself perfectly to Croatia’s new strategy and final abandonment of obsessively counting eVisitor numbers each summer season.
The silver Green Destinations award was awarded to eastern Croatia’s overlooked Vukovar-Srijem County, as well as to the gorgeous Mljet National Park in popular southern Dalmatian. In addition, the beautiful Krka National Park in central Dalmatia received the gold Green Destinations award.
In addition to all of the aforementioned, two more Croatian tourist destinations were in the running for the Green Destinations Top 100 Story Awards. These were the overlooked Ivanić-Grad, as well as Croatia’s oldest and largest national park, Plitvice Lakes National Park. Both of these Croatian tourist destinations were ranked among the 36 best examples of sustainable tourism practices in the entire world.
“The Green Destinations awards are proof of the exceptional effort and dedication put in by all tourism workers, especially those who are directly responsible for tourism management in destinations’We are particularly pleased that all the awarded destinations have firmly shown that sustainable management is much more than preserving natural resources,” said Katarina Miličević, director of Tourism Lab, the official representative of Green Destinations in Croatia.
This year, the number of Croatian representatives at the Green Destinations Awards was the largest to date. Croatia currently has nine tourist destinations with the Green Destinations Award: two with gold, five with silver and two with bronze status, with several more currently in the certification process.
There are six Croatian tourist destinations on the Green Destinations Top 100 Stories list for 2024, with Ivanić-Grad and Plitvice Lakes National Park standing out in particular, as they were among the finalists of the Green Destinations Top 100 Story Awards. In terms of the number of destinations on this global list, Croatia is ranked alongside Estonia, Portugal, neighbouring Slovenia and Thailand.
