New Zagreb Tram Hits the Capital’s Tracks
March the 11th, 2025 – A brand new Zagreb tram has finally hit the Croatian capital city’s tracks as ZET’s tram fleet renewal gets going after fifteen long years of waiting.
As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the very first new Zagreb low-floor tram, manufactured by the Croatian company Končar – Electric Vehicles, was put into service on Monday. This marked the start of the long-awaited renewal of the tram fleet after fifteen long years of waiting.

The brand new, modern Zagreb tram, which will operate along Line 1 from Borongaj to Zapadni kolodvor, is just under 21 metres long and can transport 115 passengers. The completely low-floor design facilitates full and easy access for people with disabilities, and is equipped with modern features that include video surveillance, USB ports for charging portable devices, an automatic passenger counting system and technology for reducing electricity consumption.
“This isn’t only the most complex product to be made by Končar, but also the pinnacle of Croatian industry as a whole. Dozens of microcomputers, kilometres of wires and thousands of signals at any given moment make this new Zagreb tram a technological marvel. We’re confident that it will bring a more comfortable, safer and more efficient ride to everyone in the City of Zagreb,” said Josip Ninić, President of the Management Board of Končar – Electric Vehicles.

The tram’s official launch was attended by the Mayor of Zagreb Tomislav Tomašević, his deputy Luka Korlaet, the President of the Board of Directors of ZET Marko Bogdanović, and Damir Šoštarić, Director of the Directorate for EU Funds of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure.
“I’m very pleased and happy with this new Zagreb tram. I would like to point out that this is a shorter tram, and it’s also the first of 40. I’m thrilled because there aren’t many European cities where a tram is both produced and used. It’s a complex product and we can be very proud of that,” stated the mayor before the tram was formally put into function.
