Dubrovnik Markets Itself as Ideal Film Destination Amid Oscars

March the 8th, 2025 – “Lights, camera, Dubrovnik!”. Dubrovnik has hopped on the recent Oscars buzz to further strengthen its position as the ideal film destination.

Dubrovnik made a name for itself among TV and film buffs after Lovrijenac became known worldwide as Kings Landing in the hit Game of Thrones series. Then (in no particular order) came James Bond, Robin Hood, Star Wars and more.

Croatia’s southernmost city and longtime tourism Mecca had managed to carve out a solid name for itself in the film world, with many tourists descending on the city purely to see the locations spotlighted in varies series and films.

Dubrovnik is indeed an ideal film destination, and there’s no better time to take advantage of that on the world stage while all eyes are glued on the Oscars.

As Dubrovacki vjesnik writes, the Dubrovnik Tourist Board recently successfully implemented a geotargeted promotional campaign during the Oscars. The primary aim of that promotion was to further affirm beautiful Dubrovnik as an ideal film destination that can, does, and will continue to lure in international film productions.

The promotional campaign, which was implemented on the social media platforms of Facebook and Instagram, was focused on all participants and visitors at the Dolby Theatre, the location of the Oscars, as well as the audience in the immediate vicinity.

Through this promotional activity, the efforts of the Dubrovnik Tourist Board managed to reach 67,898 users, successfully showcasing the beauty of Pearl of the Adriatic and its film locations, and further stimulating interest in future film projects. The goal of this campaign was to raise global awareness of Dubrovnik as an ideal film destination, and the promotional ads were targeted at users at the moment of greatest audience concentration in front of the Dolby Theatre – when the film stars arrived on the red carpet, as well as during the prestigious awards ceremony itself.

This promotional activity further increased the visibility of Dubrovnik on the global map of film destinations, positioning it as an ideal film destination and celebrating all the costumes it has so successfully donned.
