March the 6th, 2025 – It’s almost that time of year again! The Festival of Lights Zagreb 2025 is promising an impressive, glow-filled show at multiple locations across the capital.

For several years now, the Croatian capital city has been lit up for a few nights in March in creative and whimsical ways. The Festival of Lights Zagreb has come to be considered as the arrival of spring, longer days, and warmer weather after the cold, foggy months of winter. The Festival of Lights Zagreb 2025 is just around the corner…

From the 19th to the 23rd of March, the bustling Croatian capital will once again host the Festival of Lights Zagreb, organised by the Zagreb Tourist Board (TZGZ) in cooperation with partners and with the support of the City of Zagreb.

An impressive 25 attractions will be set up (and lit up) at 22 different locations over five days, bringing the magic of light, symbolically marking the arrival of spring and providing visitors with a special atmosphere in the city’s various squares, streets and parks.

On the occasion of the Festival of Lights Zagreb 2025, Mayor Tomislav Tomašević stated the following: “This festival has become an essential event in the cultural and tourist calendar of the city. Once again, Zagreb’s streets, squares and facades will shine owing to unique light installations, bringing artistic vision, innovation and inspiration to all visitors.

This festival isn’t just a spectacle to come and look at – it celebrates creativity and makes culture accessible to everyone. I’m particularly pleased to see how it attracts an increasing number of artists, residents and guests from all over the world each and every year, further confirming our city’s status as a year-round destination rich in content.

It’s really important to emphasise that the festival attractions are completely free for all visitors. That’s why I’d like to invite all our fellow citizens and guests to come together and experience the magic of light, warmth and togetherness that this festival brings!”

The Director of the Zagreb Tourist Board, Martina Bienenfeld, also said: “The Festival of Lights Zagreb 2025 is being held in the spirit of two great anniversaries – the 1100th anniversary of the Croatian Kingdom, a historical milestone that reminds us of the rich heritage of this country, and the 100th anniversary of the Esplanade Hotel Zagreb, a symbol of this city’s elegance and hospitality.

Another special feature of this year’s festival is the ever stronger international cooperation Zagreb can boast of, where more than half of the impressive light installations, 13 of them, come from 8 different countries, bringing international creativity from the Czech Republic, France, Italy, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany, Slovakia and Great Britain to Croatia.

This year, we’ll be continuing our cooperation with WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) Adria, drawing attention to the protection of nature, as well as our responsibility towards the environment and future generations. As part of that, on Saturday, March the 22nd, at 20:30, we’ll mark the global Earth Hour event by turning off the lights at Marulić Square for ten minutes.

As the main symbol of the Festival of Lights Zagreb 2025, we’ve chosen the hellebore flower – especially appreciated for its winter and early spring flowering period, thus further emphasising the arrival of spring. I’d like to invite everyone to come to Zagreb and experience the unique atmosphere of this festival, and to celebrate the important historical and cultural moments of this city and Croatia as a whole with us,”

As always, in addition to Croatia, the Zagreb Tourist Board is conducting online and offline campaigns on the markets of Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, France, Italy, Hungary, the Netherlands, Germany, the USA, Slovenia, Serbia and Great Britain. Promotional billboards have also been set up in the arrivals terminal of Zagreb’s Franjo Tuđman International Airport.

As a reminder, the Festival of Lights Zagreb has been included in the Festival of Lights International since its first edition back in 2017, putting it in the spotlight around the world with cities such as Berlin, New York and many others. The opening programme in collaboration with German and Croatian artists and with 3D mapping is scheduled for Wednesday, March the 19th, at 19:00, at the location that is being presented for the first time – the Esplanade Hotel Zagreb.

As has been the case back during previous years, the Festival of Lights Zagreb 2025 will be open from 18:00 to 23:00, and admission to all programmes is free. More information about individual programmes, as well as a map of locations, is available at the Visitor Centre and on the festival’s website.

More detailed information about each planned light installation and their locations is also available here.
