Sveta Nedelja Becomes Important for New Porsche Business

  • PublishedFebruary 26, 2025

February the 27th, 2025 – Sveta Nedelja has been chosen by Porsche for its new business. It will situate a new factory for the production of Porsche ebike batteries.

Croatian entrepreneur Mate Rimac has long since put Sveta Nedelja near Zagreb on the map, and Porsche will now spotlight the town even more with its latest plans.

As Poslovni Dnevnik/Zoran Vitas writes, a new facility will be opened in the continental part of Croatia where batteries for Porsche electric bicycles will be produced. It will be where both Rimac Automobili and Greyp Bikes used to be located. It was supposed to be a separate division within the group that Mate Rimac had started to create, but the agreement with Porsche conditioned the takeover of the Greyp brand, its merger with Porsche’s eBike Performance, or its shutdown.

Given the fact that Porsche eBike Performance also deals with electric bicycles, batteries are needed. The location in Sveta Nedelja was therefore chosen by Porsche as the location for the production facility.

The Sveta Nedelja Porsche facility, which would cover approximately 2,000 square metres, will open next year. “This marks another step forward on the path to Porsche’s first drive system for e-bikes,” they stated from the company, which is based near Munich. The Croatian subsidiary Porsche eBike Performance is otherwise located in the western part of Zagreb. The fact that this is only Porsche’s very first electric bike drive isn’t really surprising, as the company itself was only founded in 2022.

“We can see great innovation potential in battery technology. Comprehensive quality control and production reliability were the key reasons behind our decision to largely produce the batteries for the Porsche system in-house,” explained Dr. Alexander Wunsch, Chief Financial Officer of Porsche eBike Performance. It isn’t that the entire process of drive unit production is going to occur in Croatia, but will, including the engine and transmission, be in Germany, and the exact location of this facility will be announced later.

The subsidiary in Croatia is participating in the development of the entire drive, including the design of the batteries. The plan is for the drive (in addition to the battery) to include a software solution for the connectivity architecture, as well as the motors. Porsche has otherwise been investing in this particular segment for a very long time. It was recently announced that the company recently created P2, a joint venture company that deals with the planning and design of electric bicycles.
