February the 23rd, 2025 – The Meetings Star Awards 2025 has shone the spotlight on bustling Zagreb as the best congress destination for this year.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, the Meetings Star Awards 2025 ceremony recently took place. The body honours the best destinations, hotels, convention centres, agencies and individuals in the convention and event industry. The City of Zagreb was named the best congress destination in the L-city category (up to 2,000 participants). This significant recognition from the Meetings Star Awards 2025 is a concrete confirmation of the continued growth of Zagreb. It also spotlights its ongoing and individual development as an alluring destination for business and similar travel.

The Meetings Star Awards are otherwise one of the most highly regarded awards in the always growing convention industry. They are presented by the specialised media outlet Kongres Magazine as part of the Conventa convention exchange, which took place this year from the 18th to the 20th og February. The evaluation is based on strictly defined criteria within the Meeting Experience Index, which contains as many as 75 parameters, including infrastructure, hotel and convention hall offers, accessibility and the overall impression. The competition included nineteen countries in the so-called New Europe region, which encompasses Central and Southeastern Europe.

The Director of the Zagreb Tourist Board, Martina Bienenfeld, stated the following: “This award is amazing recognition for Zagreb as a congress destination and proof of the dedicated work and investment taking place here in terms of tourism and congress infrastructure. Continuous development, excellent connectivity, a diverse offer of hotels and event spaces, and top-notch service make Zagreb an increasingly attractive choice for organisers of congresses and business meetings. We’re more than proud of this title and we plan to continue to work on making Zagreb an even more desirable MICE destination. By winning the Meetings Star Award 2025, Zagreb has once again confirmed its importance as an indispensable congress destination, and this title contributes to its further positioning on a truly global level.”

According to the expert jury, Zagreb achieved a high overall score of 4.53, which makes it the leader in its category. The Croatian metropolis is described as pleasant, compact and easily accessible, and a very accessible destination for participants of business events. Strategic investments, such as the new airport terminal and the modernisation of the Croatia Airlines fleet, along with almost the best air connectivity in the region, further strengthened its position as a leading regional MICE destination. It was also pointed out that Zagreb can boast of numerous new hotels, among the best in the wider region, and a variety of impressive venues for events. All these characteristics put Zagreb at the top of the ranking.

The Meetings Star Awards ceremony was held on February the 19th in the Grand Reception Hall in Cankarjevo dom in the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana. It was attended by over 400 distinguished guests and event organisers from all over Europe.
