UNESCO to Premiere Video on Končar Battery Powered Train

February the 19th, 2025 – UNESCO gives incredible recognition for Croatia’s Končar as it is set to premiere a video about their revolutionary battery powered train at their headquarters.

As Poslovni Dnevnik writes, Končar is the official partner of World Engineering Day 2025, an international day declared by UNESCO itself. This milestone coincides with the 80th anniversary of UNESCO and the 10th anniversary of the UN’s seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“The collaboration not only highlights the commitment of Končar to sustainable innovation, it also aligns our efforts with UNESCO, a globally recognised intergovernmental organisation known for its credibility and influence. As part of this special campaign, we’re introducing our revolutionary battery-powered train – the first fully battery-powered regional train, recently presented to an international audience at InnoTrans in Berlin.

As the only Croatian company participating in this entire prestigious global initiative, Končar is proud to present the only such train in the campaign,” Končar wrote on its company profile on LinkedIn.

They added that there are only a few weeks left until March the 4th, when their video will be premiered at UNESCO headquarters in Paris. The film was produced by SJH Group.

Battery-powered trains are otherwise much more environmentally friendly, quieter and more efficient to run. They can be used on different lines, and their autonomy depends on the battery capacity and speed.

In line with the general green trend spreading across the entire transport sector, the innovative Končar battery-powered trains can also help reduce the maintenance and operating costs of railway vehicles, and UNESCO has duly recognised this Croatian company’s efforts.
